In a tragic turn of events, bandits have mercilessly taken the life of one of the seven captives abducted from Kuduru community in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on December 28, 2023.
The assailants, who snatched seven individuals, including a pregnant woman, have issued a chilling ultimatum, threatening to execute the remaining hostages unless a hefty sum of N290 million is promptly furnished.
According to a trusted community insider, the bandits communicated on Friday to deliver the distressing news of the demise of Olayinka Ogunyemi, identified as a civil engineer, citing the failure of the captives’ families to meet the exorbitant ransom demand.
The source recounted the harrowing message delivered by the perpetrators, underscoring their ruthless intent to eliminate the remaining captives, which include a toddler, two siblings, the pregnant woman, and two adult males.
“Yesterday, the bandits informed us of the tragic demise of Engineer Olayinka Ogunyemi. They brazenly declared their intent to terminate the lives of the other captives unless the demanded sum of N290 million is promptly provided.”
Despite an initial payment of N23 million and the provision of requested supplies, including food, the hostages remain in captivity, instilling fear and helplessness among their loved ones.
In a plea echoing the desperation felt by the community, calls are directed towards the federal government, the police, and the military to intensify rescue efforts. The bandits, emboldened by perceived grievances against Nigeria, have vowed retaliatory action, exacerbating the urgency of the situation.
The captives are identified as follows: Godwin Rachel Adeoye, Godwin Dominic, Austin Buremo, Hassan Usman, Hassan Faosiya, and Bako Azeez.
