Barrister Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, has been suspended from the party by Ward 3 in Arue-Uromi, Esan North-East local government area of Edo State. The suspension is due to alleged high-handedness and anti-party activities.
A suspension letter dated May 14, 2024, followed by a ratification letter dated May 15, 2024, was confirmed at a state executive committee meeting on Friday night in Benin, announcing that the suspension takes immediate effect.
The suspension letter, signed by Ward Chairman Thompson Ehiguese and Ward Secretary Stanley Usiomoh, instructs Abure to cease representing himself as a member of the Labour Party in Ward 3, Arue-Uromi, Esan North-East LGA.
The ratification of Abure’s suspension was communicated to the State Executive Committee by the Local Government Chairman of Esan North-East, Patrick Onogbeni, and LGA Secretary, Ehikioya Eromosele. The ratification letter stated, “The LGA Executive met on May 15, 2024, to consider the matters of the suspension and found them substantial, thereby upholding and ratifying the suspension.”
The State Executive Committee, led by Kelly Ogbaloi, endorsed the decisions of the ward and local government committees on Friday. The meeting was intense, with party leaders and members chanting, “Abure must go!”
The State Executive Committee reviewed the letters and the issues outlined within them, ultimately ratifying Abure’s suspension.
