Borno cuts pension processing delays by 60% — HOS

Borno, Nigeria — The Borno State government said it has streamlined pension documentation and reduced processing delays by over 60 per cent on Thursday.

The state Head of Service, Muhammad Ghuluze, disclosed this during a press conference organised as part of activities to mark the 2025 civil week in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

The HOS, while highlighting some of the key achievements in the state civil service between June 2024 and June 2025, listed welfare improvement and digitalisation drives in some Ministries, Department and Agencies.

“We streamlined pension documentation and reduced processing delays by over 60 per cent, conducted promotion exams and capacity building in ICT, financial regulations, ethics and leadership, and recruitment of critical staff,” he said.

However, Ghuluze noted that the state is faced with critical challenges, particularly limited infrastructure caused by the 2024 Maiduguri flooding, funding constraints, and insecurity.

The HOS pledged the state government’s commitment to addressing these challenges and others relating to minimum wage discrepancies for serving and retired civil servants.

He therefore called for collaboration from various stakeholders in rebuilding the state civil service to beat its contemporaries among the committees of state civil services in the country.

“To our civil servants, let us rededicate ourselves to duties, discipline, and innovation. To partners, let us deepen our collaboration in the spirit of rebuilding Borno. To citizens, participate actively, demand accountability, and support reforms.”

“Let us remember that the strength of any government lies in the quality of its public service. Our journey continues but with resolve, innovation, and partnership. We shall build a civil service that reflects the resilience and dignity of Borno State,” he added.
