Bereaved Parents Advocate Closure of Abuja School Following Autopsy Results

The grieving parents of Miguel Ovoke, a four-year-old pupil of BrickHall Schools situated at Cadastral Zone B11, Kaura District, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, are urging the FCT Educational Authority to suspend operations at the school premises. This call to action comes in response to autopsy findings suggesting that their child succumbed to electrocution rather than choking, as initially asserted by the school administration.

Newsmen has learned that the parents, accompanied by aggrieved community members, staged a demonstration at the school premises to protest against the circumstances surrounding their son’s demise. The revelation from the autopsy, contradicting the school’s narrative of choking during mealtime, fueled the parents’ demand for accountability and closure of the institution.

Reports indicate that joint security personnel intervened to maintain order amidst the escalating tension, resorting to the use of tear gas and warning shots to disperse the agitated crowd. Anonymous sources among the protesters allege that security forces employed intimidation tactics, threatening further escalation if the demonstrators refused to vacate the premises.

Tragedy struck BrickHall Schools in April when young Miguel Ovoke tragically passed away during the school’s designated feeding period. Suspicion arose among the bereaved parents, prompting them to seek clarity regarding the circumstances leading to their son’s untimely demise.

The death certificate issued by Excel Specialist Hospital, Abuja, dated April 24, 2024, revealed that Miguel was brought to the medical facility in an unconscious state by school staff. The document indicated a preliminary diagnosis of choking during feeding, with subsequent resuscitation attempts proving futile, resulting in the tragic declaration of “Brought in Dead.”

In response to mounting concerns and suspicions of foul play, the deceased child’s parents enlisted the legal counsel of Abuja-based lawyer Deji Adeyanju to advocate on their behalf and pursue justice in the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident.
