Nigeria: Violent protests erupted in Naka, Benue State, on Tuesday, as angry youths took to the streets, burning houses and buildings in response to the killing of three members of the Civil Protection Guards by suspected armed herdsmen
The protests led to the destruction of a significant part of the Local Government Secretariat, the palace of the Ter Nagi, Chief Daniel Abomtse, and properties belonging to other prominent sons of the Local Government.
Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the violence, urging security agents to intensify efforts to capture the perpetrators. He also appealed for restraint, emphasizing that destruction of property would undermine the government’s efforts to establish peace and security. The State Police Commissioner, Mr. Steve Yabanet, has led a team of security agencies to the area to restore order.
