Benue State Assembly Launches First E-Parliament System

Makurdi, Benue StateThe Benue State House of Assembly has taken a landmark step into modern legislative governance with the official inauguration of its E-Parliament System, themed “Legislating in the Digital Age.”

At the launch event held in Makurdi, Mr. Terwase Gbande, Managing Director of Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC), emphasized that the digital platform is designed to equip lawmakers with the necessary skills, resources, and technological tools for effective legislative work in the digital era. He revealed ongoing plans to provide capacity-building training and supply working devices to Assembly members to ensure optimal use of the E-Parliament system.

Mr. Gbande also highlighted a collaboration with the Speaker of the House to digitalize all laws passed by the Assembly since its inception, aiming to make these legislative documents publicly accessible and promote transparency.

Kennedy Angbo, Chairman of the House Committee on ICT and Digital Economy, welcomed the initiative as a major stride toward inclusive governance, empowering citizens to engage more actively in the legislative process. He praised Governor Hyacinth Alia for his visionary leadership and steadfast support that made the project a reality.

The Assembly’s Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, alongside Member Michael Audu, pledged their dedication to the success of the new system, noting that embracing digital governance could establish a benchmark for efficient and responsive lawmaking.

Speaker Aondona Dajoh called on all members to collaborate in making the E-Parliament platform a model for digital governance across Nigeria. He stressed the importance of enhancing accountability, transparency, and citizen participation through this pioneering project, which marks the first implementation of such a system in North Central Nigeria.
