Bauchi set to recruit 3,000 teachers as part of the AGILE initiative.

Bauchi—The Bauchi State Government has taken a significant step towards improving the education sector by approving the recruitment of 3,000 teachers to address the teacher-student ratio gap in Junior and Senior Secondary Schools across the state.

This decision was announced by the Project Coordinator of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), Malam Ali Gar, during a meeting with stakeholders in Bauchi Local Government.

The recruitment plan involves deploying 2,000 teachers to Junior Secondary Schools and 1,000 teachers to Senior Secondary Schools. Gar emphasized that the recruitment of these teachers is crucial for meeting the requirements for implementing the AGILE project in the state. He clarified that the recruited teachers would be placed on the state government’s payroll rather than the AGILE project’s payroll, ensuring their accountability and sustainable involvement in the educational system.

In addition to the teacher recruitment initiative, the AGILE project will also kickstart Conditional Cash Transfers for 9,000 selected beneficiaries within the next two weeks. The beneficiaries will receive financial support structured around attendance and performance criteria, with incentives for regular attendance and active participation. The AGILE project has also procured ICT facilities and skills acquisition tools to enhance the learning experience for the beneficiaries.

While progress has been made in registering beneficiaries for the program, with 9,000 out of the targeted 20,250 beneficiaries already registered within ten weeks, there is still work to be done to achieve full participation. Gar urged stakeholders to actively monitor school activities to ensure that teachers fulfill their responsibilities effectively and that the program runs smoothly.

The Executive Chairman of Bauchi Local Government, Alhaji Mahmood Babama’aji, commended the efforts of the AGILE team and expressed confidence in the School-Based Management Committees’ capacity to deliver on their responsibilities.
