Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Government has formally inaugurated 500 cadets and marshals of the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) as part of efforts to curb traffic violations and enhance road safety across the state.
The initiative, unveiled during a passing-out parade at the Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu Square, Government House Bauchi, aligns with the government’s goal to engage over 2,000 unemployed youths in supporting traffic law enforcement and promoting order on the roads.
BAROTA’s Mandate
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Bala Mohammed outlined BAROTA’s responsibilities, which include:
– Removing and impounding vehicles obstructing highways.
– Arresting road traffic violators.
– Ensuring smooth traffic flow in urban centers and major towns.
– Promoting road safety awareness among residents.
Governor Mohammed emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping BAROTA with adequate vehicles and operational tools to ensure the agency’s effectiveness. He also urged the cadets to collaborate with traditional security agencies to maintain safety and order on the roads.
Expert Confidence and Public Support
The Director General of BAROTA, Retired Air Commodore Ahmed Tijjani Baba Gamawa, and the Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Istifanus Ibrahim, expressed optimism about BAROTA’s potential to transform traffic management and road safety in the state. They, however, cautioned the newly inducted cadets to uphold discipline and professionalism in their duties.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Abubakar Babawo, pledged the union’s full support for BAROTA’s activities and commitment to fostering safer roads in Bauchi.
The event featured a regimental parade and the decoration of senior officers, symbolizing the official commencement of BAROTA’s operations.
