Bauchi state, Nigeria-The Federal Polytechnic Bauchi has announced the immediate suspension of academic activities following a violent incident at a male student hostel and a subsequent student protest.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the institution’s Registrar, Kasimu Salihu, revealed that unidentified intruders broke into the male hostel, stealing students’ belongings and injuring at least two individuals.
In response, students gathered at the institution’s main gate to protest the attack and demand prompt action from the management. According to the registrar, while the institution’s leadership responded swiftly—with principal officers addressing the students—external elements allegedly hijacked what began as a peaceful demonstration.
“Unfortunately, hoodlums with no regard for the welfare of students or the institution exploited the situation, turning the protest into a security concern,” Salihu stated.
Citing safety reasons and the need to restore order, the management directed all students to vacate the campus within two hours of the announcement. Academic activities are suspended until further notice.
