Bangladesh PM Resigns and Flees Amid Mass Protests

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country following a massive protest in which demonstrators stormed her palace.

According to foreign media reports, Hasina is currently en route to Agartala, India, via helicopter.

Hasina’s departure, marking the end of her tenure since 2009, follows a surge of thousands of protesters in Dhaka’s streets. The unrest escalated after violent clashes between police and protesters resulted in at least 90 deaths.

Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman is scheduled to address the nation, though his speech has been delayed due to ongoing consultations with various stakeholders.

Reports indicate that some protesters have breached Hasina’s official residence in Dhaka.

In the past month, the government’s crackdown on anti-government protests has led to at least 300 deaths.
