Authorities enhance security at Kaduna Government House and block roads due to protests.

In Kaduna, following a violent clash between security forces and protesters near the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, the Kaduna State Police Command has taken measures to enhance security in the area.

The road leading to the Government House has been barricaded and security presence has been increased. The spokesperson for the Kaduna Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, stated in a press release that groups planning to protest were advised to coordinate with the Commissioner of Police to establish guidelines for a peaceful demonstration.

Moreover, the initially peaceful protests were reportedly disrupted by hoodlums who took advantage of the situation and caused chaos. The miscreants attempted to forcibly access the Kaduna State Government House, resulting in clashes with security personnel, injuries to two policemen, and vandalism of police vehicles and government offices. The police have vowed not to tolerate individuals who incite violence under the pretext of protesting and disrupt public peace.

On Friday, security forces prohibited protesters from marching through the state capital and instead directed them to stay in their localities to prevent potential conflicts or further damage to government property. Markets and commercial centers remained closed, with concerns about the presence of hoodlums and potential theft. Security operatives had to disperse angry youths with tear gas near Rigasa and Unguwar Muazu on the western bypass who were chanting offensive slogans against the government.

The roads within and outside the state capital were not as busy as usual, with limited traffic and mostly articulated vehicles traveling on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, some of which displayed fresh leaves as a symbol of solidarity with the protesters. The situation in Kaduna remains tense as security forces continue to maintain order and prevent further violence and unrest.
