Ilesa, Osun State — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar paid a courtesy visit to the former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, at his residence in Ilesa, just hours before the coronation of the 49th Owa Obokun and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup.
Atiku was accompanied by former Vice President Namadi Sambo, and the meeting drew several high-profile figures from the Osun political landscape, prompting speculation about possible political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
Sharing a short video on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Atiku confirmed the visit with the caption: “Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola.” The informal gathering featured prominent allies of Aregbesola, including former Osun APC Chairman Lowo Adebiyi, Omoluabi Progressives Chairman Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, former Secretary to the State Government Moshood Adeoti, and ex-Speaker of the State House of Assembly Najeem Salaam.
Though the visit’s official purpose was not disclosed, analysts view the convergence of two former vice presidents and key Osun stakeholders as a strategic political signal as the nation edges closer to another election cycle.
Earlier in the day, Atiku shared his arrival at Akure Airport in Ondo State, where he was received by regional stakeholders, reaffirming his participation in the high-profile coronation event.
The coronation ceremony, held at the Obokungbusi Hall in Ilesa and followed by a reception at Ilesa Grammar School, proceeded as planned following the Osun State High Court’s dismissal of a petition seeking to halt the event.
