Nigeria – The ASUU Labels Student Loan Scheme Unreliable, Opposes TETFund Abolition. Nsukka Zone has criticized the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, calling it unsustainable and untested. The union warned against replacing the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) under the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024.
ASUU’s Zonal Coordinator, Raphael Amokaha, emphasized the critical role of TETFund in funding infrastructure in tertiary institutions, which benefits all students. He described the loan scheme as exclusive and insufficient, urging the National Assembly to safeguard TETFund and prioritize budgetary allocations for education.
