The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its planned industrial action.
The union had previously opposed the Scheme of Service issued by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) for polytechnics across the country.
In a statement by ASUP President Comrade Shammah Kpanja, the union expressed its concerns over the NBTE’s scheme, which it said discriminated against holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates and distorted employee progression in polytechnics.
ASUP had given the federal government, through the Ministry of Education, a 15-day ultimatum to address these issues or face industrial action.
The union commended the intervention of Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman and NBTE Executive Secretary Prof. Idris Bugaje for their prompt efforts to address the contentious provisions in the Scheme of Service.
