Lagos, Nigeria — Tolu Arokodare has made history as KRC Genk’s most expensive outgoing transfer after agreeing to join Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolves will pay a €27 million transfer fee for the Nigerian forward, the highest amount ever received by the Belgian Pro League club for a single player.
The previous record was held by Sander Berge, who moved to Sheffield United for €25 million in 2020. Notable previous Genk exports include Kevin de Bruyne and Wilfred Ndidi.
The 24-year-old Arokodare, who was the Belgian league’s top scorer last season with 21 goals, is scheduled to undergo medicals at Wolves before signing his contract.
Arokodare began his senior career in Latvia, briefly played in the Bundesliga with 1. FC Köln, and has scored 41 goals in 113 appearances for Genk.
His arrival provides Wolves with a potent attacking option as they seek to improve their Premier League standing following several key departures this summer.
