Army Advocate Developmental Journalism to Address Insecurity

The Commander of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army in Katsina State, Brigadier-General Babatunde Omopariola, has called for the promotion of developmental journalism as a strategy to tackle insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking during a luncheon with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council, led by Chairman Tukur Den-Ali, the event served as a prelude to the 2025 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day. Held at the Command’s Officers’ Mess, it fostered engagement between the media and military.

Omopariola stressed the growing importance of media in shaping public perception, influencing military operations, and garnering public support. He advocated for embedding journalists in military planning to counter negative narratives about security agencies and promote collaboration.
