Appalling rate of child sexual abuse in Lagos

By Damilola Adeleke

The Lagos State Government has revealed that 2,588 minors experienced sexual assault and abuse within a one-year period in the state. These children reportedly faced emotional abuse during various domestic violence incidents recorded between August 2022 and July 2023. The government has initiated counseling sessions for 40% of these children to help them cope with the psychological impact of their experiences as part of the preparations for the 2023 Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, themed “Not in my Lagos.”
