APC Dominates Kebbi Council Elections, Dismisses PDP Allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has rejected recent accusations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) concerning the 2024 local government elections, calling the claims unfounded and misleading.

This follows the announcement by the Kebbi State Independent Electoral Commission (KESIEC) that APC candidates emerged victorious in the local council elections held on Saturday. The winners included those contesting for positions as Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors across the state.

KESIEC Chairman, Hon. Aliyu Muhammed Mera, officially declared the results on Sunday.

Responding to the PDP’s allegations, APC’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Isah Abubakar Assalafi, asserted that the elections were peacefully conducted in all 21 local government areas, with significant voter turnout and heightened security. He emphasized that law enforcement personnel were strategically deployed at polling units, collation centers, and KESIEC offices to ensure a smooth and secure process.

Assalafi also highlighted the presence of election observers and KESIEC officials at voting centers, contributing to the transparency and credibility of the electoral process. He praised the orderly conduct of voters, who participated without fear or intimidation.

Reaffirming APC’s dedication to democracy and grassroots development, Assalafi pointed to the party’s track record in infrastructure, security, and opportunities for citizens. He noted plans to extend the tenure of local government council members from two to three years and strengthen the Local Government Service Commission.

He expressed disappointment with the PDP’s decision to boycott the elections, accusing the opposition party of disseminating falsehoods. He argued that by opting out of the election, the PDP forfeited its right to challenge the outcome or seek legal recourse.

The APC condemned the PDP’s boycott as unconstitutional and an attempt to disenfranchise voters, calling on the opposition to engage in constructive dialogue for the betterment of Kebbi State, rather than promoting baseless accusations and divisive rhetoric.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and prosperity under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, who appointed qualified individuals to KESIEC following their thorough vetting and approval by the State Assembly.
