Abuja, Nigeria— The All Progressives Congress (APC) has categorically denied allegations by Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, that its spokesperson, Felix Morka, threatened his life.
The allegations emerged during Obi’s press conference on New Year’s Day, where he expressed concerns about the state of the nation under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. Obi claimed that Morka had issued a threat, allegedly stating, “Peter Obi has crossed the line so many times and has it coming to him whatever he gets.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Mr. Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, described Obi’s accusations as malicious and baseless. He accused Obi of fabricating the allegations to gain public sympathy and stir political unrest.
Clarifying his earlier comments, Morka stated, “Nothing in that statement constitutes or suggests a threat to Obi or anyone else. My remarks were solely about Obi’s political conduct and criticisms, not a physical threat.”
Morka further accused Obi of spreading misinformation, alleging that the Labour Party candidate incites hostility against differing opinions and tolerates online harassment from his supporters.
“Obi must stop misleading Nigerians with false narratives and start offering constructive criticism based on facts,” Morka asserted.
The APC spokesperson highlighted instances where Obi’s followers allegedly bullied and threatened political opponents, including respected elder statesmen.
The APC called on Obi to withdraw his accusations and issue a public apology. Failure to do so, Morka warned, would prompt legal action to protect his reputation and that of the ruling party.
