The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the Benue State Chairman, Augustine Agada, and other members of the State Working Committee (SWC). The announcement, made by the NWC led by National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar-Ganduje, was issued from the party headquarters in Abuja.
This action contravenes a recent directive from the Benue State High Court, which had restrained the party from dissolving the Agada-led committee. In response, Ganduje inaugurated a seven-member caretaker committee to manage the party’s affairs for the next six months.
Ganduje explained, “We are addressing issues of factionalism and legal disputes that have plagued the state. To ensure unity and effective management, the National Working Committee has dissolved the State Executive Committee and established a caretaker committee.”
The newly appointed caretaker committee includes Hon. Benjamin Omale (Chairman), Prof. Ben Angwe (Secretary), and members Hon. Richard Mzungweve, Hon. James Omguga, Terhemen Ngbea, Helen Agaigbe, and Ali Adah.
Previously, the Benue State High Court had issued an ex parte order by Justice Theresa Igoche, prohibiting the APC from removing Agada and his committee until the completion of their four-year term. The court also instructed that the order be served to the APC and scheduled a hearing for August 28.
In response, Agada addressed the media, presenting the court order and criticizing the party’s actions. “We were elected for a four-year term, and it is unjust to terminate our tenure prematurely,” Agada stated.
The APC in Benue is currently divided between factions supporting Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who back the Agada-led committee.
