The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced its decision to abstain from participating in the upcoming local government polls slated for April 6, 2024.
In a press release issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Doifie Buokoribo, the party unequivocally disavowed any involvement in the electoral process, citing deep-seated distrust in the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC), which they allege comprises staunch members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Buokoribo leveled accusations of premeditated election rigging, alleging the existence of a preordained list of victors awaiting proclamation post-election on April 6.
Recalling the timeline of events, Buokoribo highlighted BYSIEC’s initial call for elections and subsequent postponement due to internal conflicts within the PDP, a move that has raised suspicions within the APC camp.
Asserting that only unforeseen emergencies or natural calamities warrant electoral postponement, Buokoribo emphasized the absence of such exigencies in this scenario.
In a firm call to action, Buokoribo urged all party members and supporters to refrain from partaking in the electoral process, citing a lack of confidence in its fairness and transparency.
