The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kwara State have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing their collaboration in the fight against corruption.
This commitment was highlighted during a meeting between the Director of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, Harry Erin, and the Kwara State Director of the DSS, Michael Oganwu, during Oganwu’s visit to the EFCC office in Ilorin.
Michael Oganwu expressed his intention to strengthen the already good working relationship between the DSS and the EFCC, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in combating crime, particularly money laundering and terrorism financing. He stressed that no organization could effectively tackle these issues alone and called for enhanced synergy between the two agencies.
Harry Erin, the EFCC Director, welcomed the DSS’s support and stressed the significance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving the agencies’ mandates. He acknowledged the DSS’s assistance in providing intelligence and tracking criminals involved in financial crimes and terrorism financing.
Additionally, during a separate meeting with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) Kwara State chapter, Harry Erin urged real estate developers to adhere to the provisions of the Money Laundering Act, especially in conducting proper customer due diligence.
He emphasized the importance of complying with financial regulations, such as not engaging in cash transactions exceeding specified limits without involving financial institutions and registering with the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML).
The REDAN Chairman sought collaboration with the EFCC and commended the agency for its efforts in combating crime. He also requested support in dealing with land grabbers, whose activities were adversely affecting their businesses.
