Residents of Ado-Ekiti are gripped with fear and uncertainty following the tragic shooting of a middle-aged woman by daring gunmen on Saturday morning.
The incident took place at a junction near the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti Continuing Education Center, off NTA road, around 7 am. This marks the latest in a series of similar shootings that have claimed the lives of at least four individuals in Ado-Ekiti in recent weeks.
Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen arrived on a motorbike and attempted to snatch the woman’s bag while she was standing by the road. Despite her resistance, the woman was ultimately overpowered and fatally shot. The horrifying event led to panic in the area, prompting many people to flee for safety, and shop owners hurriedly closed their businesses.
Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, characterized the incident as more of a robbery, revealing that the woman’s bag contained the sum of ₦40,280. Her body has been transferred to the morgue, and law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing the perpetrators in their investigation.
The community remains on edge as the search for those responsible continues.
