Anambra State House of Assembly Passes Conflict Management Bill into Law

In a move aimed at fostering peace and managing conflicts within the state, the Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a bill establishing the Anambra State Peace Building and Conflict Management Agency. The bill, which was signed into law on [date], underwent extensive amendments and corrections by lawmakers at the committee of the whole before its passage.

The new law aligns with the agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, which prioritizes infrastructure, economic transformation, security, and social cohesion. Speaker of the House, Mr. Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over the plenary, emphasized the bill’s crucial role in preventing conflicts in the state.

The bill’s sponsor, Dr. Jude Akpua, representing Njikoka Constituency II, highlighted its importance in resolving conflicts in families, communities, and all aspects of human life, potentially reducing litigation in courts and the number of inmates in prison.

The newly established agency will be responsible for promoting peace and resolving conflicts through proactive measures, including identifying potential sources of conflict, mediation, and negotiation efforts. Additionally, the agency will implement peace-building initiatives across various communities, including land matters in Anambra State.
