Osun state, Nigeria: Operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, came under violent attack by suspected armed hoodlums at their command base in Awo, Egbedore Local Government Area.
The incident, which took place last Friday, was confirmed in an official statement by the Corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass. According to the statement, the operatives had initially visited the location to monitor activities following reports of a burial but arrived after the interment had concluded.
Tensions escalated when a notorious suspect, Ismaila Aluko—allegedly a long-wanted criminal—emerged at the scene with a group of armed associates and launched an assault on the operatives, resulting in multiple injuries.
“In a shocking turn of events, the hoodlums regrouped and launched a second attack on the Amotekun office in Awo,” the statement noted.
Reacting to the attacks, the Corps Commander, Dr. Isaac Omoyele, strongly condemned the violence, describing it as a grave threat to public safety and security. He warned that such acts would no longer be tolerated and assured that efforts were underway, in collaboration with other security agencies, to apprehend those responsible and ensure they face justice.
