Manchester, England — Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has advised young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo to remain patient as he adjusts to limited game time at the club.
Mainoo, an England international, has featured sparingly in the preseason and was an unused substitute in United’s opening 1-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League. Speaking ahead of the team’s fixture against Fulham, Amorim took responsibility for Mainoo’s situation and highlighted tactical reasons affecting his playing time.
“We play with two midfielders, so it’s sometimes a different way of playing, and we have to understand, especially the young players, that there are phases in the season,” Amorim said. “Nowadays, with a lot of games, things are going to change, but he is there, he’s fighting, he’s training, so he’s one more option for us to win games.”
Amorim’s comments suggest that Mainoo remains an important part of his tactical plans as the season progresses.
