Amorim Proud of Man United’s Performance Despite Arsenal Defeat

Manchester, EnglandDespite Manchester United’s opening day 1-0 loss to Arsenal, manager Ruben Amorim expressed pride in his players’ performance.

The match saw Arsenal capitalize on United’s ongoing struggles with defending set-pieces, with Ricardo Calafiori scoring a header in the 13th minute. United dominated much of the game but were unable to find an equalizer, extending their winless streak against Arsenal to six matches, including five losses and one draw.

Speaking after the game on United’s official website, Amorim said, “It was a very good performance. I’m really proud of the players but, in the end, we lost the game. But again, for me, you can win and you can lose in the end, but I am proud of what they did, my players. It’s a good feeling. At the same time, it’s really hard to lose a game like this.”

He praised the team’s increased aggression, bravery, and pressing compared to last season. “We sprint more. We were more brave. We let one against one all the game. We pressed high. And then with the ball, we have quality.”

Amorim also highlighted improvements in ball retention during build-up play and the impact of players like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in energizing the team and the stadium atmosphere. “We lost fewer balls in the build-up, compared to last year, was [where] we struggled a lot… I think the most important thing, we were not boring.”
