The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education has called for ongoing training and retraining of school managers and teachers to keep their knowledge and skills current.
The commission emphasized that the success of any school relies on vision, capacity, aspiration, ownership, and support.
Dr. Muhammad Sani Idris, the Executive Secretary of the commission, highlighted that every child has the potential to excel academically. He made this statement in Bauchi during a capacity-building seminar organized by the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation.
Speaking on “School Management, Financial Sources, and Control,” Dr. Idris attributed poor academic performance among students to teachers’ failure to adhere to standard teaching methodologies. He stressed the importance of ensuring students follow all instructions to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
Regarding the issue of almajiri and out-of-school children, Dr. Idris mentioned that President Bola Tinubu is concerned about this problem and is ready to support initiatives aimed at resolving it. He noted that efforts are being made to integrate Western education into the curriculum of almajiri schools and to remove millions of vulnerable Nigerian children from the streets.
Sayyadi Aliyu Sisse Dahiru Bauchi, the Director of Education for the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation, expressed gratitude to the Executive Secretary for sharing his expertise and pledged support for restructuring the Almajiri education system.
The seminar was attended by participants from over 600 schools under the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation.
