Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate, asserts that the 10th National Assembly’s legislative roadmap will significantly uplift the standard of living for Nigerians.
Akpabio made these remarks during the public hearing organized by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and Tetfund, alongside the House of Representatives Committee on Student Loans, Scholarships, and Higher Education Financing, focusing on the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) repeal and reenactment Bill 2024, held at the Senate on Monday.
“The 10th National Assembly, since its inception in 2023, has embarked on a legislative agenda aimed at ushering in remarkable improvements in the living conditions and standards of the populace, aligned with Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he emphasized.
Represented by Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy President of the Senate, Akpabio lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary support and unwavering commitment to aiding Nigerian students through the loan scheme.
He highlighted that the scheme would tackle the challenge of inadequate funding among Nigerian students.
Regarding the bill’s amendment, Akpabio assured that the input of all stakeholders would be thoroughly considered to ensure the formulation of optimal legislation.
“I encourage you to express your opinions freely, either in favor or against the subject of this hearing, in a manner conducive to nurturing our collective national identity,” he urged.
Public hearings serve as a fundamental aspect of the legislative process, providing the general public and pertinent stakeholders with a platform to contribute to lawmaking.
Akpabio underscored the significance of stakeholders’ input during the joint public hearing, emphasizing its pivotal role in informing the committee’s recommendations to the Senate and the House of Representatives.
“The submissions and recommendations of the committees will serve as the basis for the enactment of laws essential for effective governance, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended,” he concluded.
