AGF, IG to Decide KWAM1 Case Despite Public Apology

Abuja, NigeriaThe Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says only the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) can determine the fate of Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, following petitions over his recent clash with ValueJet Airline officials at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu confirmed this on Friday while reacting to KWAM1’s public apology for the August 5 incident, which was caught on video and widely shared online. The footage showed the singer in a confrontation that appeared to obstruct the aircraft’s take-off, prompting public backlash and a six-month flying ban imposed by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo.

The NCAA said it had already petitioned the AGF and IGP for a probe and possible prosecution, stressing it lacks prosecutorial powers. “We have referred the case… they will determine and communicate the next steps,” Achimugu said.

In his apology, KWAM1 described the altercation as “unfortunate,” attributing his actions to a medical need for constant hydration and denying reports that he carried alcohol. He insisted the flask in question contained only water, filled at the lounge before boarding — a claim he said CCTV footage could verify.

Keyamo acknowledged seeing the apology online but said no decision had yet been made. Police and AGF officials have not confirmed receiving the petitions.

KWAM1 expressed regret over the incident and reaffirmed his loyalty to Nigeria, saying he would never intentionally harm his reputation or that of the country.
