Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire— Nigeria’s D’Tigress women’s basketball team will clash with Mali in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket today, Sunday, aiming to secure a historic fifth consecutive continental title.
This final marks the first time D’Tigress and Mali meet in an AfroBasket final. D’Tigress earned their spot by defeating Senegal 75–68 in a thrilling semifinal, overcoming a third-quarter deficit with a strong finish. Mali booked their place after a dominant 76–50 victory over South Sudan.
D’Tigress are unbeaten in the tournament, having won all four matches so far, including group stage victories against Rwanda (92–45), Mozambique (60–55), and a commanding quarter-final win over Cameroon (83–47). Mali also enter the final undefeated, boasting group wins over South Sudan (55–53), Cameroon (75–49), and Mozambique (86–68) in the quarter-finals.
Nigeria seeks to become the first African women’s basketball team to win five consecutive AfroBasket titles, marking their seventh overall. Mali, aiming for their first title since 2007, could tie with Egypt and Angola as two-time champions with a win.
D’Tigress currently hold a remarkable 28-game winning streak in the AfroBasket competition and are led by Coach Rena Wakama, whose leadership has been widely praised.
The final is set to be a decisive chapter in African women’s basketball history, with Nigeria chasing historic dominance and Mali seeking a return to the top of the continental game.
