AFCON Qualifier: Eguavoen Excuses Nwabali From Rwanda Clash

Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has excused first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali from the squad for Monday’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Rwanda in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Team administrator Dayo Enebi Achor confirmed Nwabali’s absence, stating, “He has been excused from the game. However, he will attend the match to support his teammates.”

Nwabali recently announced the passing of his father, Chief Godspower Onyekam Abali, Chief Onyeogazrim 1 of Okwuzi, via his social media. The late chief surveyor was 67.

With Nwabali unavailable, the battle for the starting goalkeeper position at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium will be between Italy-based Maduka Okoye and Ethiopia-based Amas Obasogie.
