Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State commended the Super Eagles squad, specifically acknowledging goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali and head coach Jose Peseiro, following Nigeria’s triumph over South Africa in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final on Wednesday.
The victory, secured through a penalty shootout, propelled Nigeria into the AFCON finals after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Sanwo-Olu, expressing his elation on his official X account, exclaimed, “We did it! So proud of our Super Eagles for their tenacity, with Nwabali’s in-match and penalty heroics, Ekong, Osimhen, and the silent hero, Coach José Peseiro.
Off to the finals, and God willing, the Cup awaits. Playing @asakemusik’s Amapiano for the rest of the week.” Nigeria is set to face Ivory Coast in the AFCON final on Sunday.
