In a dramatic battle on Sunday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia, the Nigerian Super Eagles defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 to win their penultimate game in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification series.
Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, and Kenneth Omeruo, the team’s substitute captain for the match on Sunday, shared their reflections on the tense match, praising their opponents’ tenacity and lauding their own fortitude.
In his post-game interview, Omeruo lauded the Sierra Leone team’s tenacity, particularly given that the match was crucial to their chances of qualifying.
Omeruo stated his appreciation with the Super Eagles’ ability to retain their composure throughout the game despite the difficulties.
We anticipated that they would fight because it is their only chance to qualify, so it was a challenging game. But I’m glad we stayed composed till the very end and managed to win the game, so I’m thrilled,” he remarked.
