Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed has called on corps members nationwide to take the lead in advocating for national development and transformation.
Governor Mohammed made the appeal in Bauchi on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of 1,500 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members for 2024, at the permanent orientation camp in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area.
“The principles and initiatives of the NYSC scheme recognise the immense physical, psychological, mental, and intellectual capabilities and inclinations of our youth, whose strategic importance is crucial for nation-building,” Mohammed said.
“I challenge you to take the lead and advocate for national development and transformation. I am confident that, like those who came before you, you are prepared for this task. ”
“I urge you to take this noble call seriously and commit yourselves wholeheartedly to achieving the Scheme’s objectives of national unity and development.”
“Your predecessors laid a solid foundation. I trust that you will continue to build upon the legacy they have left behind.”
“The people of Bauchi State are supportive of and aligned with the goals and principles of the NYSC. Consequently, we have pledged to collaborate with you in every possible way to ensure the success of the Scheme in the State,” he added.
Represented by his Deputy, Auwal Jatau, Mohammed also implored the corps members to heed the nation’s call to serve with increased dedication and commitment, emphasising that the future of the country rests in their hands.
He acknowledged the significant role corps members play in shaping Nigeria’s collective destiny and urged them not to squander this unique opportunity or neglect their responsibilities to the nation.
In her remarks, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, stressed that the orientation course was designed to challenge the corps members physically, mentally, and emotionally.
She explained that the curriculum is tailored to instil essential physical and leadership attributes for their future endeavours.
The Coordinator also noted that a total of 1,217 prospective corps members were successfully registered, comprising 570 males and 647 females.
