Osun – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the creation of temporary shelters for individuals displaced by recent communal conflicts in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun.
The governor also confirmed the continuation of a 24-hour curfew, reinforcing security measures in the affected areas. The clashes, which began as a land dispute between Ifon and Ilobu on Friday, later escalated to Erin Osun by Saturday. The violence led to several casualties, widespread destruction of homes, and mass displacement of residents, many of whom fled to Okinni, Osogbo, and Ido Osun for safety.
A statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday in Osogbo, revealed that the establishment of these camps follows the government’s distribution of relief materials through local traditional rulers.
“Now that relief distribution has begun, I have instructed the state emergency agency to set up camps for the displaced individuals. Each community will have a designated camp, which may be a town hall or another suitable location of their choice. Security agencies will conduct screenings before relocating displaced persons to these camps,” Adeleke stated.
He assured that the emergency agency would continue providing food and essential supplies while awaiting additional support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Additionally, Adeleke praised security operatives for their swift response and directed them to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for instigating the violence.
“All culprits must be held accountable. I expect them to be charged in court as soon as possible,” he affirmed.
