ADC Senatorial Candidate Donald Amamgbo Rejects Anambra South By-Election Results, Alleges Electoral Irregularities

Anambra state, NigeriaThe African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate in the Anambra South Senatorial by-election, Donald Amamgbo, has rejected the outcome of the poll conducted on Saturday, August 16, citing widespread irregularities and a deliberate effort to undermine the democratic process.

Speaking at a press conference in Awka on Tuesday, Amamgbo described the election as a “carefully orchestrated charade” that failed to reflect the will of the electorate. He called for an independent and comprehensive review of the election to uncover what he termed “systemic sabotage” and the “desecration of democratic norms.”

According to official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Emmanuel Nwachukwu, won the by-election with 90,408 votes. He was followed by Azuka Okwuosa of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 19,847 votes. Amamgbo of the ADC came third with 2,889 votes.

Amamgbo criticized the conduct of the electoral process, alleging that INEC failed to issue accreditation tags to ADC ward and local government collation agents on the eve of the election. He said this act deliberately hampered his party’s ability to monitor and protect their votes during the collation process.

“This election was not just flawed; it was a direct assault on the people’s right to choose their leaders,” Amamgbo stated. “What transpired was not an election but a premeditated attempt to silence dissenting voices and manipulate the outcome to favor certain interests.”

He emphasized that his grievance goes beyond personal loss, framing it as a broader concern for the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic system.

“This struggle is not about me—it is about the future of our democracy,” he said. “Anambra South deserves credible representation. Nigeria deserves transparent and accountable elections. I will continue to speak out and stand with the people until these ideals are upheld.”

Amamgbo reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles and vowed to pursue all legal and constitutional avenues to challenge the outcome of the poll.
