Adamawa Gov’t Gives Flood Aid to 4,000 Households

Yola, NigeriaThe Adamawa State Government has begun distributing relief materials to 4,000 households affected by recent floods across the state.

The initiative, flagged off on Saturday by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, saw items donated by the state government, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) given to beneficiaries at distribution points in Yola-South, including the Digital Centre, Ahmadu Ribadu, Lamido Zubairu, and Aliyu Mustapha College.

Farauta cautioned recipients against selling the materials, warning that a monitoring team would ensure no relief items appear in markets. “These items are for family use to cushion the impact of the floods. Anyone caught selling them will face consequences,” she stressed.

She further urged residents to use the rainy season to cultivate crops as part of efforts to sustain their livelihoods, reaffirming government’s commitment to the welfare of its people.

Earlier, the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) had conducted a door-to-door ticket distribution exercise in affected communities such as Shagari, Yolde Pate, and Modire, enabling verified victims to claim food, bedding, clothing, and other essentials.

The recent floods claimed an estimated 29 lives and displaced thousands. Distributed items included rice, maize, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, tomato paste, vegetable oil, and iodized salt, as well as non-food items like plastic cups, spoons, children’s clothing, mats, blankets, and mattresses.
