Actress Jumoke George recently shared the reason for her 14-year absence from the Nollywood film industry during an interview on Oyinmomo TV.
She attributed her prolonged break to the challenges she faced, including her dark complexion and her refusal to engage in sexual activities in exchange for roles.
According to George, her dark skin color was not the only obstacle she encountered in her career. She mentioned that directors often complained about her complexion and suggested she lighten her skin for scenes, to which she would insist on maintaining her natural color.
She emphasized her stance against compromising her values by engaging in sexual favors for roles, despite pressure from directors.
George highlighted the issue of sexual demands in the industry, stating that she faced pressure from numerous executives who requested sexual favors in exchange for roles. She stood firm in her refusal to succumb to such demands, firm in her belief that she would not compromise her principles for career opportunities.
The actress recalled a conversation with a director who disclosed that she was being sidelined from roles because of her refusal to comply with the demands for sexual favors.
This revelation left her devastated, but she turned to prayer and her faith in God to navigate through the challenging situation.
