Nollywood performer Damilola Ogunsi has addressed a recent misidentification incident where a viewer, identified as Ohjay1, mistook him for a white individual in the series ‘Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre.’
In the clip shared by Ohjay1, from a scene featuring the protagonist Saro (portrayed by Kunle Remi) encountering an angel (portrayed by Damilola Ogunsi), the viewer expressed dissatisfaction with the casting choice, stating, “This thing has to stop, why use white as an angel inside a black movie #Anikulapo.”
In response, the actor, who has albinism, expressed his amusement at not being correctly identified and asserted his identity, stating, “Feels good not to be recognized. I’m sure I’m ‘blacker’ than anyone in that scene.”
The incident sheds light on the importance of accurate representation in film and challenges faced by actors with albinism in the industry.
