The Coalition of June 12 Activists, representing various pro-democracy groups advocating for a better Nigeria, has advised Nigerians to refrain from protesting against the country’s economic challenges. This statement comes in response to calls from certain groups, both domestically and internationally, urging Nigerians to protest against the prevailing hardships.
Awa Bamiji, the National Coordinator of the coalition, commended Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, for discouraging protests among groups and individuals from the Southeast region. Bamiji emphasised, “We are instructing that no pro-democracy group or community, whether in Nigeria or abroad, should organise protests against the current government.”
He further added, “We are closely monitoring the situation and have requested those appealing to us to clarify their stance prior to this administration. Many of them were associated with opposition parties.
We have questioned their contributions to national unity and patriotism post-election because elections should not be seen as ‘do or die’; instead, we should exhibit sportsmanship in every electoral process.”
