Abducted Corps Members Rescued and Reunited with Families in Zamfara

The last of eight prospective corps members kidnapped in Zamfara State over a year ago has been released and reunited with their families, marking the end of a long ordeal.

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, announced the development during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. The eight victims, along with their bus driver, were abducted on August 17, 2023, while traveling from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto for their one-year mandatory service.

Brigadier General Ahmed assured the public that comprehensive medical tests had been conducted on the rescued corps members, and they are in good health.

Two of the victims, Victoria Udoka and Esudue Emmanuel, expressed their gratitude to the NYSC for securing their release, though they described the kidnapping as a deeply traumatic experience.

Eddy Megwa, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, who is retiring this week, expressed relief and happiness over their safe return. However, he urged corps members nationwide to avoid nighttime travel due to the risks involved.
