Abuja, Nigeria — After 12 days in captivity, the National President of the Afenifere Youth Council, Eniola Olajuni, has been released by his abductors.
The confirmation came on Saturday from the National Secretary of the Youth Council, Biodun Aderohunmu, who shared the news via a brief WhatsApp message to reporters, stating, “He has been released.”
In a widely circulated video, Olajuni also affirmed his release, simply saying, “I have been freed.”
The youth leader was kidnapped on Monday, February 17, while traveling to Abuja for a scheduled meeting.
His abduction sparked nationwide concern after his captors demanded a ransom of N100 million and two tricycles for his release. The situation intensified when a disturbing video surfaced online, showing Olajuni at gunpoint, pleading with Nigerians to raise funds for his freedom.
Amid mounting public outcry, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, directed the Intelligence Response Team to intervene and ensure Olajuni’s safe return.
While details surrounding the circumstances of his release remain unclear, including whether a ransom was paid, his freedom has been met with widespread relief.
