A Group in the APC eyes el-Rufai’s ministerial slot for Southern Kaduna

A group under the All Progressives Congress (APC) is advocating for the ministerial nomination slot of Nasir el-Rufai to be given to southern Kaduna.

The convener of the Southern Kaduna APC Concerned Members, Samuel Barnabas Kambai, said this was necessary to give all parts of the state a sense of belonging.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, Mr. Kambai said there was an unwritten agreement in 1999 that whenever the governor was from northern Kaduna, the minister should be from the southern part.

This, according to him, gave Southern Kaduna a sense of inclusiveness, which eventually led to the loyalty of the region to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and a mutual political understanding between the northern and southern regions.

He explained that the state governor, speaker of the House of Representatives, Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, and secretary to the Government (SGF) are all from the northern part of the state.

Kambai said, it will be fair if Southern Kaduna is considered for the ministerial slot and given to any of the 10 local governments in the southern hemisphere

He, however, said it might be an oversight that urgently needs to be looked into to ensure political inclusivity and the loyalty of southern Kaduna to the APC led administration.

The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir Ahmed el-Rufai from the northern part was the ministerial nominee from the state but was not cleared by the Senate.
