The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Dr Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, has stated that the audit of the oil, gas, and mining industries is aimed at mobilizing domestic resources for the government. This was revealed during a sensitization workshop in Port Harcourt for the conduct of the 2022-2023 industry reports in the South-South and South-East Zones. The focus of the audit is to increase domestic resource mobilization, according to Orji, as part of NEITI’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the industry and prevent leakages.
NEITI highlighted the importance of domestic resource mobilization in its interventions within the extractive sector to ensure transparency and accountability through public disclosure measures. The workshop served to educate agencies and companies in the South-South and South-East zones about the templates for the audit, the scope of the report, and the data and information required for the process. The Executive Secretary explained that these workshops align with the principles and standards of the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
