The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has augmented its defensive capabilities with the acquisition of 20 upgraded Armor Personnel Carriers (APCs), aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s resolve in addressing prevailing security challenges.
In a formal ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, acting on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, presided over the official handover of the APCs, complete with requisite documentation and keys, to General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).
According to Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, these newly acquired armored vehicles represent a significant technological leap forward, boasting enhanced weaponry and cutting-edge communication systems capable of detecting and engaging adversaries from considerable distances, thereby amplifying the military’s operational effectiveness.
Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana underscored the economic significance of this acquisition, highlighting that the APCs were domestically manufactured, signaling both a fiscal prudence measure and a boost to local industries. Moreover, he emphasized the ancillary benefits of job creation and a reduced reliance on foreign currency.
In his remarks, General Christopher Gwabin Musa expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Ministry of Defence, lauding the Minister’s proactive approach. He pledged to utilize the newly acquired APCs judiciously in ongoing security operations, with a steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation’s integrity and neutralizing emergent threats.
