The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Dauda Biu, has criticized the practice of trailers transporting passengers along with goods. He has instructed Sector Commanders to intensify enforcement and awareness efforts against this practice nationwide.
The accident, involving a DAF trailer, was caused by factors such as speeding, overloading, and driver fatigue, leading to the vehicle veering off the road and into a ditch. The incident, which occurred on March 18, 2024, involved 172 male adults. Sadly, 10 individuals lost their lives, while 48 sustained injuries.
In response to the growing issue of unsafe road practices, the Corps Marshal has ordered officers to conduct proactive patrol operations and set up mobile courts in critical areas. The injured victims have been taken to Saint Anthony and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua hospitals for treatment, while those who lost their lives have been placed in the morgue. The FRSC is continuing efforts to monitor and support the injured individuals in their recovery.
