Bayer Leverkusen manager, Xabi Alonso has provided a fresh injury update on forward Victor Boniface.
Boniface is currently recuperating from an adductor injury he sustained during Nigeria’s preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 23-year-old was scheduled to return to the pitch in April.
Alonso has however said the Nigeria international is in line to feature for the club before the end of this month.
“He’s not ready yet, but next week we have an international break and we’ll use the time to take a step forward with him,” Alonso told a press conference.
“Maybe for Hoffenheim if everything goes well, but we’ll see.
“We need to have a bit more patience but he’s close to getting back on the pitch.”
Boniface joined Die Werkself from Belgian Pro League side, Union Saint-Gilloise last summer.
The striker has scored 16 goals and provided eight assists in 23 games in all competitions this season.
Leverkusen are on track for a maiden German top-flight title, sitting 10 points clear of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga with nine games remaining.
