Bright Okon, a skilled artisan, met his demise at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia following a fatal fall from a ladder while engaged in maintenance work at a prominent Umuahia hotel.
The somber incident unfolded on Thursday around 12:30 pm as the 24-year-old craftsman was diligently executing repair tasks within the premises of the hotel.
Sources reveal that Okon, in the course of his duties, lost his footing on the ladder, resulting in a dire impact to his head and subsequent loss of consciousness.
Swift action was taken by hotel staff who promptly conveyed the injured worker to the Federal Medical Centre for urgent medical intervention.
Tragically, despite efforts made by medical personnel, Okon was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Authorities were swiftly notified of the incident, with personnel from the Central Police Station (CPC) promptly dispatched to the scene by hotel management.
However, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding Okon’s demise, with an alternative narrative suggesting potential electrocution while conducting electrical repairs within the hotel premises.
Inquiries made to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the unfortunate passing of the artisan, though specific details were not disclosed.
ASP Chinaka reiterated that the hotel management promptly alerted the Central Police Station, Umuahia, to the tragic occurrence, with law enforcement officers conducting an active investigation into the matter.
