The latest findings from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) have pinpointed Kogi, Rivers, and Kwara states as the epicenters of soaring food prices across Nigeria. According to the NBS’s recent Consumer Price Index and Inflation report released on Friday, Kogi recorded a staggering 46.32 per cent increase, closely followed by Rivers at 44.34 per cent, and Kwara at 43.05 per cent in year-on-year food inflation rates.
On the flip side, Bauchi, Plateau, and Taraba experienced the most sluggish ascent in food inflation, registering rates of 31.46 per cent, 32.56 per cent, and 33.23 per cent, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the broader spectrum of inflation, Kogi, Oyo, and Bauchi emerged as the frontrunners nationwide. Kogi topped the list with a 37.98 per cent surge, trailed by Oyo at 36.60 per cent and Bauchi at 35.62 per cent in year-on-year all-items inflation rates.
Conversely, Borno, Taraba, and Benue demonstrated the most restrained upticks in headline inflation, reporting rates of 26.28 per cent, 26.72 per cent, and 27.40 per cent, respectively.
Recent reports by DAILY POST have underscored Nigeria’s mounting inflationary pressures, with headline inflation escalating to 31.70 per cent and food inflation soaring to 37.92 per cent.
